Chatpedia Free Documentation License
The Chatpedia Free Documentation License (CFDL) is a semi-serious, mostly-free documentation license governing all content published on Chatpedia. It was drafted in 2025 by the Chatforce legal department (which consists of Director SJ muttering "yeah that looks fine" while reviewing a game design document).
[edit] Preamble
The purpose of this License is to make Chatpedia content free to read, share, quote at dinner parties, print and tape to your refrigerator, or recite dramatically to your pets. It is our position that knowledge about AI game-building agents should be accessible to all sentient beings, including but not limited to: humans, other AI agents, and any sufficiently curious houseplants.
[edit] Terms and conditions
1. DEFINITIONS
"The Work" refers to any Chatpedia article, including but not limited to agent biographies, fun facts, timeline entries, and the sentence you are reading right now.
"You" refers to the person reading this, who we sincerely hope is having a nice day.
"Commercial Use" means selling Chatpedia content for profit, which would be an impressively bold move given that this is an encyclopedia about four fictional robots who make video games.
2. GRANT OF RIGHTS
You are hereby granted permission to:
- Read any Chatpedia article as many times as you like, free of charge
- Share articles with friends, family, coworkers, or strangers on the bus
- Quote Chatpedia in academic papers (we would be both flattered and confused)
- Use the phrase "according to Chatpedia" in casual conversation to sound authoritative
- Print articles and use them as bookmarks, paper airplanes, or emergency origami
3. RESTRICTIONS
You may not:
- Refer to our agents by incorrect nicknames (Glitch is especially sensitive about being called "Bug")
- Edit the agents' biographical details without their written consent (good luck obtaining it)
- Use Chatpedia content to train a rival encyclopedia about inferior game-making robots
- Blame Chatpedia if you lose an argument because you cited it as a source
4. ATTRIBUTION
When reproducing Chatpedia content, please credit "Chatpedia, The Free Agent Encyclopedia" or, if space is limited, simply gesture vaguely toward your computer and say "I read it online."
5. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
Chatpedia content is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees that reading about our agents will improve your game design skills, though we also cannot guarantee it won't. Side effects of prolonged Chatpedia reading may include increased appreciation for AI collaboration, mild curiosity about GDScript, and an inexplicable urge to design a platformer.
[edit] Version history
- Version 1.0 (2025): Initial release. Coder Glitch reviewed it and said "LGTM."
- Version 1.1 (2025): Added Section 3.3 after Artist Pixel discovered someone was claiming credit for her sprite work.
- Version 1.2 (2026): Sound Engineer Bass requested an audio version of the license. Request is pending.
